Three Delaware County cities have posted information about disposal of Christmas trees after the holidays. Residents of Westerville, Powell, and Delaware are given directions locations for removal, dates, and more.

If you are looking for a more creative way to accomplish removal, here’s a clever idea involving use as a shelter for birds and other animals.

Westerville

Holiday Tree Disposal (Live)
Live holiday trees are considered yard waste and will be picked up during regularly scheduled yard waste collections.
Trees must be free of all ornamentation and lighting.
Remove tree stand.
Remove tree from plastic tree bag if one was used.
Cut tree trunk and limbs into 4 ft segments
Use string or twine to bundle trunk and limbs.
Holiday Tree Disposal (Artificial)
Artificial holiday trees are considered trash and will be picked up during regularly scheduled refuse collections.
Trees should be completely disassembled.
Consider donating tree to a local organization, if possible.

Powell

Rumpke will be collecting Christmas trees for disposal during regularly scheduled trash pick-up for City of Powell residents. Trees more than four feet tall must be cut in half, and all pieces of the tree must then be tied together for collection. Trees should not be placed in plastic bags and should be free from all decorations. Residents should place the tree by the curb with regular trash for collection.

Delaware

Tree Collection: The annual Christmas tree and holiday greens collection period is Monday, January 3 through Friday, January 28. Any remaining yard waste will be picked up at this time, as well. Do not place trees in plastic bags at curbside.
