As winter fades and the signs of spring emerge, Delaware residents can prepare for the return of the city’s seasonal yard waste collection program, set to begin the week of April 14. This annual service provides a convenient way for residents to dispose of lawn clippings, leaves, branches, and other organic debris as they begin their outdoor spring cleaning.

How to Prepare Your Yard Waste

To ensure a smooth collection process, residents must follow proper disposal guidelines. Yard waste must be placed in:

  • Biodegradable paper lawn/leaf bags
  • A clearly marked 32-gallon container with handles designated for yard waste
  • Bundles no longer than 4 feet and 18 inches in diameter

Each bag, bundle, or container should weigh no more than 50 pounds to be eligible for curbside pickup.

What’s Accepted (and What’s Not)

Yard waste includes:
✅ Lawn trimmings
✅ Leaves
✅ Vines
✅ Brush
✅ Sod
✅ Garden waste

However, it’s important to keep non-biodegradable materials out of yard waste. Items such as plastic bags, plant containers, pots, wire, and non-compostable string should not be included.

Where to Get Yard Waste Stickers & Bags

For those using 32-gallon containers, free “Yard Waste” stickers are available at:
