The following information was posted today by the City of Delaware relating to the current weather conditions.
As this winter storm moves into our area, City crews are fully mobilized and ready to respond.
City of Delaware Public Works staff began 12-hour shifts at 7 a.m. this morning, putting down a final application of salt brine on high-traffic roads and streets. Neighborhood streets were done earlier. Crews will remain on that shift schedule through the duration of the storm to keep roads treated, cleared, and as safe as possible. To maintain continuous coverage, some members of our snow and ice team will be staying overnight at our Public Works facility, sleeping on cots between shifts so they can respond quickly as conditions change.
This is demanding work, and it takes dedication, preparation, and teamwork. We’re grateful for the crews who are putting in long hours – day and night – to serve our community during this event. Please give them space to work, slow down on snow-covered roads, and stay safe. We’ll continue to share updates as conditions evolve.
Reminders
- Monday’s trash and recycling route service will be delayed to Tuesday. The “next day” collection schedule will be used for the rest of the week, Tuesday, Jan. 27 through Saturday, Jan. 31. If you are a Monday collection route, please wait until Monday afternoon/evening to place your toter bins at curbside.
Neighborhoods
- When plow trucks begin to service our neighborhood streets, it will be especially critical – with this much expected snow – that vehicles be moved out of the street so our trucks can provide curb to curb service.
- Fire hydrants: Fire Chief Pyle appreciates residents keeping hydrants visible and accessible for his crews, should they be needed.
- Please make sure your sidewalks are clear of snow and ice. This ensures safety for all, particularly your neighbors and children walking to school and bus stops.
Shelters
- In the event of a major power outage, Delaware County EMA will coordinate with the Red Cross to meet shelter needs that arise, and we will help communicate details.
- Our Mingo Park indoor Rec Center is open. However, if the city is placed under a Level 2 or Level 3 snow emergency by the county sheriff, we will close the center.
