The City of Powell is advertising for bids to demolish the former carry out building at 35 North Liberty Street. The building is approximately one block north of the intersection of Liberty Street and Olentangy Street/Powell Road.

The 4,800 square feet structure was built in 1984 and has been vacant since 2020, according to bid documents.

Those documents share the following: “The commercial site of 35 N Liberty Street is currently owned by STZ Ventures LLC and is made up of one (1) building and the related parking lot. The contract is being administered by the City of Powell through agreement with STZ Ventures LLC…

The project entails the demolition of 35 N Liberty Street, a two-story 60 ft x 80 ft block and wood siding building. The structure is a two-story non-sprinklered, Type VB buildings, consisting primarily of masonry and wood frame walls with wood frame floors and poured concrete footings.”

The scope of work does not include the removal of the related adjacent on-site asphalt parking lot. It does include asbestos abatement, disposal, backfill, and compaction and site restoration (grading and seeding including straw).

The project is funded by the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program with a total estimated cost of $200,615. Bids are due by Friday, February 3. Information on the bid and other details can be found here.

The short term plans for the lot include parking, however the owner, which also owns other nearby parcels, may be bringing a development plan to the City this year.
