Members of Powell City Council selected Frank Bertone to serve as the City’s new mayor and Daniel Swartwout as the vice mayor, both serving two-year terms.

Mayor Bertone has served on City Council since 2014, and has served as Chair of Council’s Operations and Development Committees. He currently serves as a member of the Finance Committee. Frank is married to Julie and has three daughters, Ava, Francesca and Giana. Frank and his family live in the Lakes of Powell subdivision and have been Powell residents since 2003. Frank is a Trust Officer / Product Consultant with Nationwide Trust Company.

“It is an honor to serve as mayor of the Powell community,” said Mayor Bertone. “I look forward to working with my peers on City Council, staff as well as the members of the community to set forth goals and priorities for the next two years.”

Vice Mayor Swartwout has served on City Council since 2016. A lifelong Central Ohio resident, Dan has lived in Golf Village since 2004. He earned two degrees from The Ohio State University. In 1996, Dan received his Bachelor of Arts Magna Cum Laude. Then, in 2000, Dan earned his Juris Doctor Summa Cum Laude from the Moritz College of Law. In 2013, Dan opened The Law Office of Daniel Swartwout, LLC. He also performs as a standup comedian and master of ceremonies for numerous events. Dan is married to Tasha, and they have one daughter.

The Mayor is the presiding officer of the City Council and is recognized as the head of the city government for all ceremonial purposes. The vice mayor of Council presides over Council meetings in the absence of the Mayor.

One new member and two incumbents of City Council took their oath of office during the first meeting of the year. Heather Karr and two incumbents –Jon C. Bennehoof and Daniel Swartwout– were elected to City Council during the fall 2019 election.
