The City of Powell has announced plans for a significant expansion to the parking facilities at Adventure Park, located at 260 Adventure Park Drive. This project, which is part of the city’s 2025 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), will add more than 80 new parking spaces near the Powell Pool to meet the demands of the park’s growing popularity.
Accommodating Increased Visitor Traffic
“The parking addition was planned to help accommodate the growing number of patrons visiting Adventure Park with the new pickleball courts that opened this fall,” said City Manager Andy White. The courts have drawn enthusiastic crowds, adding to the already bustling summer activity fueled by the Powell Pool and other park amenities.
Adventure Park has become a beloved hub for recreation in Powell, and officials are committed to ensuring accessibility for all residents and visitors. “We want to ensure that it remains accessible for everyone,” White emphasized.
Connectivity and Accessibility Upgrades
In addition to parking, the project includes upgrades to street lighting and path connections. These enhancements will improve accessibility to the city’s shared-use path system, with a particular focus on the North Depot connection through Morris Station, slated to open alongside the parking improvements in 2025.
The new paths aim to better integrate Adventure Park into Powell’s network of trails, making it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to navigate the area.
State Grant Funds a Major Portion of the Project
Funding for the parking expansion is bolstered by state support, with 75 percent of the $650,000 investment covered by a grant. The City of Powell is investing in infrastructure that meets the needs of a rapidly growing community.
“It’s important that we address the needs of our growing community with capital infrastructure that will support that growth and add convenience for residents and visitors,” White stated.
Construction Timeline
Construction on the parking expansion and related improvements is expected to begin in spring 2025. The project is part of a broader effort by Powell to enhance recreational facilities while fostering community engagement and convenience.
