A landmark season for Westerville Central High School softball received formal recognition recently, as the Westerville City Schools Board of Education honored the team for a record-setting run that carried the Warhawks all the way to the state championship game.

The Board adopted a resolution commending the 2025-26 varsity girls’ softball team, head coach Mike Fields, and his assistants for what district leaders described as an “exhilarating and historic season of play.”

A Run Into School History

Westerville Central finished the season with a 28-3 record, tying the school record for most victories in a single season. Along the way, the Warhawks assembled a 21-game winning streak and captured Ohio Capital Conference, district, and regional championships. The team also broke or tied six school records during the campaign.

The postseason run ultimately carried Westerville Central farther than any softball team in school history.

On June 7, the Warhawks competed against Kings Mills Kings High School in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II state championship game. Westerville Central finished as state runner-up, marking the first appearance by the school’s softball program in a state championship final.

Individual Honors Follow Team Success

The historic season also produced a long list of individual recognition.

  • Nine Westerville Central players earned All-OCC honors, four were selected for All-District recognition, and two received All-State honors.
  • Fields was named the 2026 OCC Ohio Division Softball Coach of the Year.

In its resolution, the Board of Education and superintendent thanked the players and coaching staff for representing the district and community “with pride and distinction.” For Westerville Central, the recognition capped a season built on 28 wins, a three-week-plus winning streak, multiple championships, six school-record performances, and a place in the state final.

It was, by nearly every measure, a season unlike any the program had experienced before.
