As Sunbury continues to grow and develop, City Council is set to tackle another set of legislative measures. Over the course of two meetings on February 19 and 20, Council members will deliberate on proposals impacting local recreation, infrastructure, energy aggregation, and commercial development. Residents and business owners alike will have the opportunity to stay informed and engaged as city leaders address these key issues.
Regular Meeting of Council – Wednesday
Sunbury City Council is set to convene for its regular meeting on February 19 at 7:30PM to address a range of resolutions and ordinances. The agenda includes several legislative items including resolutions related to intergovernmental agreements, park improvements, and energy aggregation, as well as ordinances governing commercial development and waste management services.
Resolutions and Ordinances Under Consideration
Among the third readings is Resolution 2025.04, which seeks to authorize the City Administrator to enter into an intergovernmental agreement for the establishment of a Joint Recreation District. If approved, this initiative could enhance recreational opportunities and partnerships within Sunbury.
Council will also review Resolution 2025.05 during its second reading, which pertains to engineering services for planned improvements at JR Smith Park. The agreement with Verdantas LLC aims to enhance park facilities, ensuring the space meets the needs of the growing community.
On first reading, Resolution 2025.06 introduces a proposal to execute a Governmental Aggregation Services Agreement. If adopted, this measure would allow the city to negotiate electricity rates on behalf of participating residents and businesses, potentially leading to cost savings for the community.
Two ordinances will also be under review. Ordinance 2025.10 enters its second reading, dealing with an application from NPA Commercial Property LLC and Local Provision LLC to amend the development plan for a Planned Commercial District at Sunbury Meadows Drive and West Granville Street. Additionally, Ordinance 2025.11, in its first reading, proposes awarding a contract for residential refuse collection services for a three-year period beginning April 1, 2025. This ordinance is marked as an emergency measure, signaling its importance in ensuring continued waste management services for Sunbury residents.
Special Meeting – Thursday
A day after the regular meeting, the City Council will gather for a Special Meeting at 6:30 PM at Big Walnut High School’s auditorium, located at 713 Miller Drive. The highlight of this session will be the State of the City Address delivered by Mayor Joe St. John.
Mayor St. John’s address will provide an overview of Sunbury’s progress, including economic development, infrastructure projects, and community initiatives. The address is expected to outline the administration’s vision for the coming year, offering insights into city planning efforts, financial health, and upcoming projects that will impact residents and businesses alike.
