The City of Delaware this week welcomed Dawn Bennett as its new Director of Finance.

Bennett brings to the position more than 25 years’ experience in public sector financial and accounting management, most recently as a budget analyst with Columbus City Schools. She takes over for Justin Nahvi, who departed in May for a new position.

“We are extremely excited to have Dawn join our team,” said Delaware City Manager Tom Homan. “Her experience and knowledge will be instrumental in helping ensure the City of Delaware remains on sound financial footing.”

Bennett’s experience also includes time as chief financial officer and treasurer for two school districts, Yellow Spring Schools from 2010-2019, and Greenon Local Schools from 1996-2010. Bennett also worked at the Hamilton Clermont Cooperative Information Technology Center which provides software solutions for non-profit agencies.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to helping Delaware maximize its resources to provide superior city services,” Bennett said.

While with CCS, Bennett helped manage the budget processes for the district’s Academic Department, including more than $100 million in personnel and non-salary costs and expenditures.

The City of Delaware serves the municipal service needs of more than 42,000 residents, with a combined budget of $119.6 million.  The City’s annual operating budget is approximately $71 million.
