Celebrate the arrival of May at Boardman Arts Park with the annual May Day Celebration.

Join the community on Monday, May 1 from 12 to 1pm for an afternoon of delightful festivities, community spirit, and nostalgic traditions.

๐ŸŒผ Maypole Dance by Woodward Elementary’s 3rd Graders ๐ŸŒผ

This year, the charming Maypole dance will be performed by the talented 3rd-grade class from Woodward Elementary. Witness this enchanting folk dance as the children weave ribbons into intricate patterns around a tall, decorated pole. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to relax and enjoy the captivating performance.

๐ŸŽจ Special Guest: Ernest Nkwocha, the May Day Prince ๐ŸŽจ

The event is thrilled to announce a special guest, Ernest Nkwocha, the artist behind the beautiful Princess the Unicorn art sculpture. Ernest has traveled all the way from Nigeria to be the May Day Prince, so attendees should make sure to come and say hello!

๐Ÿพ Leashed Dogs Welcome ๐Ÿพ

Attendees are welcome to bring their furry friends along to the celebration, as leashed dogs are allowed at the park.

๐Ÿฟ Snacks and Treats ๐Ÿฟ

Indulge in some free popcorn while enjoying the festivities! For a sweet treat, don’t miss the Ciao Cafe gelato cart, where delicious gelato can be purchased to satisfy cravings.

๐ŸŒณ May Day History at the Park ๐ŸŒณ

The Boardman Arts Park is built on the location of the former West/Boardman Elementary School, which operated from 1904 to 1979. The school hosted a May Day Program every year, complete with a Maypole dance. In 2018, Boardman Arts Park revived this beloved tradition by partnering with local elementary schools to perform the dance annually.
