City of Delaware Captain Tim Pyle has been appointed Fire Chief after having served as the Interim Chief since January.

Chief Pyle is no stranger to City residents. He is a Delaware native and has been with the department for 23 years, serving as a Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Administrative Captain and Interim Chief.

City Manager Tom Homan swore in Pyle as Chief on Monday, May 22, and introduced him to the City Council that night.

“Tim brings great experience and a longstanding commitment to this community,” Homan said. “I am pleased to see him in this leadership position and am confident he will serve the city well.”

The appointment caps a nationwide search that began after former Chief John Donahue departed for an opportunity with Washington Twp. in Dublin. Pyle emerged from a field of six finalists following community panel interviews, an assessment exercise conducted by the Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association, meetings with City department heads and union representatives, one-on-one meetings with the manager, and introductions to City Council members.

“It is truly a dream come true,” Pyle said to the City Council. “I look forward to continuing our department’s success serving the citizens of Delaware as their Fire Chief.”

Pyle is the department’s 26th Chief. On June 6, a badge-pinning ceremony will occur at 4 pm in the City Hall Council chambers.

Pyle will oversee an internationally accredited department that has 88 full-time staff and an annual budget of $17 million.
