After almost 900 posts, 2,500 links to stories from other local media, and countless lessons learned, we’re ready to say good-bye to 2023.

As we do so, we’re taking a day off so that Monday can be a day of family, football, food, and of looking ahead. We will see you again on Tuesday, January 2.

We close our 2023 not with our words, but with the words of poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, particularly these three stanzas from his poem “Ring Out, Wild Bells:”

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true

Ring out old shapes of foul disease;
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.
