On Tuesday, Big Walnut High School Athletics announced that the search for a new Big Walnut High School boys’ basketball coach concluded successfully on Monday, April 15 with the appointment of Matt Winters. A resident of Westerville, Winters brings a rich coaching background from his recent tenure as Associate Head Coach at Otterbein University.

Matt Winters has held the Otterbein position for the past 5 years and serving as the lead assistant coach under Head Coach Andy Winters, who is Matt’s brother.

Prior to becoming the Associate Head Coach, Matt Winters held the same position of lead assistant coach at Ohio Northern University.  He has experience in coaching and developing basketball programs.

According to the post, “Winters is poised to lead the Big Walnut high school boys basketball program, which achieved 16 victories during the 2023-24 season and boasts a talented group of young players. During the interview process, Winters demonstrated a keen understanding of what it takes to succeed at the high school and build a basketball program that includes all levels. Even more impressive is his commitment to developing a positive culture focused on the holistic growth of student-athletes, emphasizing personal, academic, and athletic development.”

Big Walnut had an outstanding 16-7 overall last year, finishing 9-5 in conference action.
