A part of the City of Delaware is set to undergo a significant transformation thanks to a $500,000 Critical Infrastructure grant awarded as part of one of Ohio’s latest funding initiatives. This project, focused on the Fair Avenue neighborhood, aims to reconstruct thousands of linear feet of deteriorated roadway, making the area safer and more accessible for residents and visitors alike.
Statewide Effort to Boost Infrastructure
Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced that 34 communities across Ohio will benefit from more than $18.2 million in Neighborhood Revitalization and Critical Infrastructure grants. These funds are part of a larger effort to enhance the quality of life in Ohio’s communities through projects that include water and sewer upgrades, park improvements, and critical road repairs.
“With this funding, we are addressing vital needs in communities across the state,” Governor DeWine stated. “From upgrading water and sewer systems to enhancing public safety and improving parks, these projects will make Ohio’s neighborhoods stronger and safer for generations.”
Lt. Governor Husted echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the economic impact: “Strong infrastructure is the foundation of a thriving economy. Through this funding, we are helping Ohio’s communities develop the resources that are critical to job creation and a higher quality of life.”
Delaware’s Fair Avenue Neighborhood Set for Major Overhaul
Delaware’s portion of the funding will directly impact the Fair Avenue neighborhood, where roads have not seen repairs in over 20 years. The $500,000 grant will facilitate the reconstruction of roads that have reached poor or critical conditions, posing safety risks to the community. The project will benefit approximately 1,300 residents, addressing long-standing concerns about road safety and accessibility.
The reconstruction will focus on seven roads within the neighborhood, completely revitalizing the area’s infrastructure. The roads, which have endured years of wear and tear without significant maintenance, will finally see the improvements needed to ensure safe and efficient travel.
City officials have highlighted that this project is not just about fixing roads—it’s about investing in the community’s future. By upgrading these critical pieces of infrastructure, Delaware aims to enhance the overall quality of life for its residents and create a more appealing environment for businesses and visitors.
Broader Statewide Impact of the Grants
The grants announced today include $7.5 million shared among 10 communities for Neighborhood Revitalization projects and $10.7 million distributed across 24 communities for Critical Infrastructure improvements. These projects are funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant program and focus on addressing infrastructure that is in critical or poor condition.
“This type of infrastructure may not always be visible, but its impact is felt every day,” said Director Mihalik. “These projects will strengthen the foundation of our communities, making them safer, more resilient, and better prepared to be Ohio’s next great economic success story.”
The scope of the projects spans various needs, including the enhancement of flood and drainage facilities, water and sewer systems, street reconstructions, and sidewalk replacements.
