The Sunbury/Big Walnut Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to invite everyone to this year’s annual Christmas on the Square! Set against the charming backdrop of Sunbury’s Square, the celebration promises an unforgettable evening of holiday festivities, family fun, and community cheer. Join neighbors, friends, and family on Saturday, December 7, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, to ring in the holiday season with free admission for all.

A Festive Marketplace to Kick Off the Evening

Starting at 4:00 PM, Sunbury Square transforms into a winter wonderland with a Craft & Gift Fair set up between Town Hall and Vernon Street. This cozy market features unique local vendors, perfect for picking up holiday gifts or festive decorations. Early vendor registration is encouraged, as space is limited to just 15 spots, promising a curated selection of seasonal goodies.

Parade, Music, and Lights to Dazzle the Square

As the sun sets, the Lighted Musical Christmas Parade will line up at 5:00 PM on Burrer Drive, with the procession officially starting at 5:30 PM. Parade announcer Dave Mazza of NBC4i will narrate the festivities as illuminated floats, decorated with lights and accompanied by carolers and holiday music, wind through the heart of Sunbury. Spectators are encouraged to sing along to classic Christmas carols as the parade brings holiday spirit to Cherry Street, Vernon, Granville, and Burrer Drive.

Interactive Holiday Activities for All Ages

Throughout the evening, there will be plenty of holiday-themed activities:

  • Ice Sculpting: Marvel at live ice sculpting demonstrations on the Square.
  • Nativity Scene: St. John Neumann Catholic Church will set up a traditional nativity scene.
  • Holiday DJ: DJ Meeko will keep the Square lively with favorite holiday tunes.
  • Tree Sale: Pick out a Christmas tree at the Sunbury Lions Club sale on Granville Street.
  • Holiday Carolers: Soak in the sounds of the season with Christmas carolers filling the Square.
  • Ornament Making & Treats: Head over to Town Hall to create ornaments and enjoy holiday treats.
  • Letters to Santa: Kids can drop off their letters for Santa at the Chamber’s outdoor mailbox.

Local businesses will also join in the festivities with special treats and extended hours, inviting everyone to explore Sunbury’s vibrant shopping scene while enjoying the holiday ambiance.

Santa Dog Costume Contest and Tree Lighting Ceremony

Back by popular demand, the Santa Dog Costume Contest will begin at 6:30 PM on the northwest quadrant of the Square. Up to 10 dogs will parade in their finest Santa outfits, with the top two winners receiving doggie goodie baskets. To enter, pet owners can register online or contact the Sunbury Big Walnut Area Chamber of Commerce.

At approximately 7:00 PM, Mayor Joe St. John and Santa will lead the Tree Lighting Ceremony to illuminate Sunbury Square. Adding to the joyous atmosphere, the Big Walnut Middle School Choir will perform as the community gathers to admire the tree’s sparkling lights.

Contests and Visits with Santa

The holiday fun continues with the Donut Eating Contest right after the tree lighting. Sponsored by Table Rock Construction, this event is open to the first eight registrants (ages 18 and older), with cash prizes for the top two contestants. Entry forms and liability waivers will be available on the day of the event.

Children will have a chance to Visit with Santa inside the Town Hall following the parade. Families are welcome to bring their own cameras to capture this special holiday moment.

Giving Back: Holiday Sock Drive

This year’s Christmas on the Square is also an opportunity to give back. The Holiday Sock Drive, sponsored by Table Rock Construction, invites the community to donate new socks at collection points on Sunbury Square or at the Chamber Office through December 7.

Come Together to Celebrate the Holidays

With festive parades, family-friendly activities, live music, and plenty of holiday cheer, Christmas on the Square promises to be a highlight of the season in Sunbury. Bundle up, bring your friends and family, and enjoy an evening filled with laughter, lights, and holiday magic!
