Delaware County music lovers take note: You are in for a treat as the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) joins forces with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to bring an interactive, music-inspired exhibit to downtown Columbus. From March 4 through May 22, visitors to the Main Library will have a rare opportunity to experience rock history in a hands-on way.

Among the highlights of the exhibit are real, working rock pinball machines featuring legendary artists such as The Who, Metallica, and Elvis Presley. These classic machines not only pay tribute to the icons of rock but also give visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the music while playing a game that has been a staple of arcades for generations.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Music lovers will also get an up-close look at authentic rock memorabilia, including a drum set once used by KISS 🥁🤘, as well as a stunning collection of rock photography. One of the standout features of the exhibit is a selection of images by Rolling Stone magazine’s legendary photographer and Columbus native, Baron Wolman 📸. Wolman’s work captured some of the most unforgettable moments in rock history, offering visitors a visual journey through the golden age of music.

More Than an Exhibit: Rock-Themed Programs for All Ages 🎤🎶

To make this event even more engaging, CML is hosting a variety of rock-themed programs designed for visitors of all ages. Families can enjoy fun activities such as music-themed Storytimes 📚🎵, hands-on crafting sessions where kids can create their own rock-inspired art 🎨, and interactive music programs to introduce children to the magic of rhythm and melody.

For adults, the library will offer engaging events such as rock trivia nights 🎸🧠, deep-dive discussions about the cultural impact of rock & roll, and historical lectures exploring the evolution of the genre. These programs aim to not only entertain but also educate audiences on the influence of rock music on society, fashion, and even political movements.

This special exhibit and its related programming are made possible with support from the Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation, along with additional contributions from the Ohio History Connection. The collaboration between CML and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame reflects the library’s ongoing commitment to expanding cultural access in the community.

Over the past year, CML has introduced initiatives such as adding Chamber Music Columbus to its Culture Pass program 🎟️ and launching the “Authors at the Library” series, which has featured notable writers like travel expert Rick Steves and neuroscientist Lisa Genova. By bringing music history to life through this exhibit, CML continues to enhance its role as a hub for learning, exploration, and cultural enrichment.
