The City of Delaware Police Department is reeling in excitement for the return of “Fish with a First Responder” on Saturday, September 6 at Smith Park.

This free community event offers youth ages 5–13 a chance to spend a day outdoors, casting lines alongside local police officers, firefighters, and EMTs. Two sessions are available — 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM — giving families flexibility to fit the fun into their schedules.

Every participant will go home with more than just good memories; each child will receive a free rod and reel, plus a free T-shirt to keep. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged through the city’s “Special Events” portal here.

Organizers say the day is about more than catching fish — it’s about building relationships between young residents and the first responders who serve them.
