The Westerville North High School theatre department is flipping the script on its usual fall lineup.

Instead of staging their traditional murder mystery, students are diving into the dark comedy classic Arsenic and Old Lace. Showtimes are set for 7:00 PM on October 9, 10, and 11.

For director Katie Breslin, this shift was all about timing and tone.

“There is no mystery to this one, which creates great comedic moments for the students to act out,” she said.

Twists, Tea, and Trouble in Brooklyn

Originally written by Joseph Kesselring, Arsenic and Old Lace centers on Mortimer Brewster, a theater critic who discovers that his sweet, elderly aunts have been quietly poisoning lonely old men — all in the name of mercy. What follows is a fast-paced whirlwind of cover-ups, confessions, and one very sinister brother.

It’s a production that offers student performers the chance to embrace physical comedy, sharp timing, and a hefty dose of mayhem.

Breslin hopes audiences walk away grinning.

“I hope the audience has a great night of laughs while watching our production and remember that while family can be a trial at times, we still love them anyway,” she said.

Step Inside the Brewster House

The show invites you into the seemingly quiet Brooklyn home of the Brewster sisters — a place where bodies are buried in the basement and dinner comes with a dash of poison.

It’s creepy, it’s absurd, and it’s funny in all the right ways.

If you enjoy quick wit, mistaken identities, and watching chaos unfold behind lace curtains, this show has your name on it.
