The Ohio Department of Transportation is advancing a $123.1 million draft list of major construction projects, and three of them land squarely in the Delaware County and northern Franklin County growth corridor.
Released March 25 by the Transportation Review Advisory Council, the proposal outlines 11 projects statewide beginning in fiscal year 2027. Among them are targeted investments at some of the most heavily traveled and development-sensitive locations north of Columbus.
Two of those local projects focus on high-pressure intersections and interchanges: improvements at I-71 and I-270 on Columbus’ north side and upgrades at US 23 and Orange Road in Delaware County. A third, roadway widening and enhancements along Alum Creek Drive, extends the impact further into northern Franklin County.
Together, the trio reflects a clear state-level response to sustained population growth, commuter traffic, and commercial expansion along the north-of-Columbus corridor.
Where The Local Projects Stand
- Alum Creek Drive (Franklin County) – $8.7 million (FY 2028)
Tier I: advancing toward construction - I-71 and I-270 Interchange (Franklin County) – $3 million (FY 2027)
Tier II: design and development phase - US 23 and Orange Road (Delaware County) – $5 million (FY 2027)
Tier II: design and development phase
The Tier II designation for two of the three projects signals that while the need is established, additional engineering, environmental work, and right-of-way steps remain before construction timelines are finalized.

What Happens Next
Public comment on the draft list is open through April 16 via trac@dot.ohio.gov. Final approval is scheduled for April 23.
TRAC’s tiered system determines how quickly projects move forward, from near-term construction (Tier I) to longer-term development pipelines (Tier II and III). For Delaware County and northern Franklin County, the presence of three projects on this list underscores both the scale of current demand and the state’s recognition of the corridor’s continued growth trajectory. As these projects advance, they will play a central role in shaping how residents, workers, and businesses move through one of Ohio’s most dynamic regions.
