As a child, did you try your hand at carving a piece of wood?

For all budding woodcarvers, a Wood Working workshop series at the Stratford Ecological Center next month will give you the chance to learn more about this hobby which has been around for millennia.[widgets_on_pages id=1]

This course will be a continuation of previous sessions at the Center, but brand-new registrants are welcome. Experienced carvers are also invited, as their presence can enhance the experience for everyone.

Students will need decent carving tools, and those can be determined on the first night of classes. Examples of supplies which will be needed are a carving knife for “stop cuts”, a set of carving gouges (only necessary for “relief” carvers), a carving glove & a sharpening strip. Wood and patterns will be provided.

Basic techniques will be taught, and safety will be emphasized.

This series will take place on Tuesday in October (2, 9, 16, 23, and 30) from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Cost is just $10 per person (plus the cost of supplies, as noted above). Registrants must be age 16 and older.

Online registration is available at this location.

The Stratford Ecological Center is located at 3083 Liberty Road. While at the Center, be sure to check out the Stratford Photography Club Members’ Exhibit, which runs through October 31.
