With a stated intent to provide factual information and not with an intention to support, oppose or endorse a position, Orange Township has shared the following background concerning the 1 mill Parks & Recreation Levy and the .5 mill Road Renewal Levy appearing on the November 5 election ballot:

The 1 mill Parks & Recreation Levy will expire at the end of 2019. This levy funds 7 Township Parks covering over 90 acres, 13 miles of bike and pedestrian trails and supports 2 full-time and 2 part-time Park Workers. This levy also funds playgrounds, an aquatic center, athletic fields, park buildings & shelters, restrooms and parking lots. Additional bike and pedestrian trails are planned such as the Lewis Center/North Road Trail and Lewis Center Trail Phase II extending from Bale Kenyon Road to Waukeegan Avenue. The renewal levy will allow for continued expansion, maintenance and operations of all of our Park assets.

The 0.5 mill Road Levy will expire at the end of 2019. This levy funds the maintenance of 101.572 miles of roadway within the 22.78 square miles of Township area and supports 6 full-time & 1 part-time Maintenance Worker along with all equipment required. Road maintenance includes, but is not limited to, patching potholes, cleaning ditches, mowing along road right-of-ways, rating roads for resurfacing & repair, line striping, installing and updating ADA accessible ramps, cross-walk markings and winter maintenance such, as snow and ice control.

These levies will cost the owner of an Orange Township home with a market value of $250,000, a total of $105.97 in taxes per year.
