The 12th Annual Suicide Prevention Walk, hosted by the Delaware Suicide Prevention Coalition, aims to foster a community that recognizes the importance of mental health and suicide prevention. With a host of activities and a spirit of collaboration, the event is set to be a beacon of hope for many.

The Essence of the Walk: Bringing Hope, Awareness, and Acceptance

The event is not just about walking 1.5 miles through historic downtown Delaware; it’s about offering support and raising awareness. It’s an invitation to survivors of suicide, those who have attempted, anyone struggling with thoughts of suicide, their friends and families, and supporters of the cause.

Activities for Everyone:

  • A 1.5-mile walk through historic downtown Delaware to promote awareness.
  • Local agencies and groups supporting suicide prevention efforts.
  • Activity tables for kids & adults for engaging, learning, and connecting.

The Force Behind the Event: The Delaware Suicide Prevention Coalition

The Delaware Suicide Prevention Coalition is more than an organization. It is a collaboration of community agencies, schools, and law enforcement, all aimed at the well-being of the community. Their mission transcends creating awareness, focusing on reducing the stigma around suicide to empower individuals to seek help and prevent further loss of life.

Event Highlights: A Day of Connection, Inspiration, and Commitment

When: Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 9 a.m. to noon. Where: Ohio Wesleyan University – Jaywalk, 40 N. Rowland Ave., Delaware, OH 43015. Cost: The event is FREE, and everyone is welcome. Registration is requested. Parking: Free all day. Download the OWU campus map.

Schedule:

  • 9 AM – Registration, Resource Tables & Activities Open
  • 10 AM – Welcome & Opening Ceremony (walk begins after)
  • Following the Walk – Closing Ceremony & Group Photo

Note: This is a non-supported walk. Volunteers will be available for assistance.
