The Strand Theatre will close out its October Tuesday Night Series with a special showing of Children of the Corn at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 28. The film’s director, Fritz Kiersch, will be on hand to introduce the movie and lead a Q&A session after the screening.

Doors open at 6:30 PM at The Strand, 28 E. Winter Street in downtown Delaware. Tickets are $8.50 for general admission, $7 for students, and $6 for children, seniors, and military members. The film is rated R.

This screening wraps up The Strand’s month-long tribute to Stephen King, featuring several of his film adaptations. The Tuesday Night Series was created to complement the theatre’s first-run films following the pandemic and has become a local favorite for moviegoers.

A Homecoming for the Director

While in Delaware, Kiersch will also meet with students at Delaware Hayes High School and his alma mater, Ohio Wesleyan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1974.

Born in Alpine, Texas, George Keith “Fritz” Kiersch is an American writer, director, and producer best known for Children of the Corn (1984) and the James Spader film Tuff Turf. Before moving into directing, he worked behind the camera on commercials and television projects as a production manager and assistant director. In 1981, he co-founded the Kirby/Kiersch Film Group with Terrence Kirby and later helped create Moving Image Arts programs at Oklahoma City Community College and Oklahoma City University.

“This is the perfect event to conclude the October Series,” said Tracey Peyton, The Strand’s managing director. “As a filmmaker who has worked in nearly every aspect of the industry and built a career rooted in creativity and collaboration, Fritz is the right person to honor Stephen King’s legacy—and the fact that he’s an OWU alum makes it even more special.”
