On Saturday, August 19 the Delaware community will respond to a call from the City of Delaware and band together to restore and protect the charm of the Olentangy River.

The Olentangy River Clean Up event will kick off at 9 AM, stretching until noon at the Cherry Street River Access Point.

A Date with Delaware’s Delightful River

The Olentangy River, a well-loved centerpiece of the Delaware community, needs a helping hand. Its banks and waters have been increasingly inundated with litter, impacting the river’s aesthetic beauty and disturbing the delicate balance of its ecosystem.

Stepping up to this challenge, residents of all ages are encouraged to bring their energy and enthusiasm to the Cherry Street River Access Point with the goal of rolling up their sleeves for a morning of environmental action.

Rolling Up Sleeves for a Cause

Assembling at 9 AM, participants will spend the morning making a difference by removing trash and debris from the river. The event promises to be a fun-filled morning of teamwork, camaraderie, and active engagement in environmental stewardship.

Participants are encouraged to come prepared for the unique challenges of river cleanup. Sturdy, close-toed shoes and clothes that can withstand water and dirt are essential. The cleaning process might involve wading through the river and navigating slippery rocks, adding an element of adventure to the day.

Safety and Supplies

To ensure the safety and efficiency of the cleanup effort, the organizers will provide all necessary equipment, including trash grabbers, gloves, safety vests, and trash bags. This means participants can arrive with nothing more than their commitment to the environment and leave with the satisfaction of a job well done.

However, the organizers have cautioned against wearing flip flops or going barefoot for safety reasons. All participants should be prepared to tackle some challenging terrains in the riverine environment.

Your River, Your Responsibility

This event is an open call to all residents to recognize their role in maintaining the beauty and health of the river. It serves as a reminder that it is more than a scenic backdrop; it’s a living ecosystem that the community shares and therefore has a duty to preserve.
