A big milestone for little learners is right around the corner. On Saturday, August 2, from 9 AM to 1 PM, Worthington Schools will host its popular First Time Riders event at the Worthington Education Center, located at 200 East Wilson Bridge Road.
This annual event is designed especially for children who will be riding a school bus for the first time, helping to ease any worries and make that first day of school a smooth ride—for students and parents alike.
A Fun and Friendly Introduction to the Bus
Throughout the day, Worthington school bus drivers will guide children through hands-on activities that build comfort and confidence. Young participants will get to:
- Take a short ride on a real school bus
- Climb aboard to explore the driver’s seat and steering wheel
- Peek under the hood to see what powers the big yellow bus
- Practice safe boarding and exiting procedures
These activities not only introduce kids to the physical space of the bus, but also teach essential safety habits in an engaging and supportive environment.
Meet the Teachers and Staff
The event is also a great chance for families to meet staff from their child’s preschool or elementary school. While everyone is welcome to attend at any time, families are encouraged to drop in during the time window dedicated to their child’s school, if possible:
- 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.: Bluffsview, Granby, Sutter Park, Wilson Hill
- 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Brookside, State Hill, Sutter Park, Worthington Estates
- 11 a.m. – Noon: Colonial Hills, Liberty, Worthington Park
- Noon – 1 p.m.: Evening Street, Worthington Hills
A Flexible Format for Busy Families
Organizers understand that schedules can be tight. That’s why the event offers a flexible come-when-you-can format. Even if families aren’t able to attend during their school’s designated hour, they’re still encouraged to stop by whenever it works best.
Making the First Day Less Scary—and More Exciting
For young children, especially those heading to school for the first time, the school bus can seem a little intimidating. First Time Riders aims to change that by transforming the unknown into something familiar—and even fun. By the time school starts, many of these young riders will be boarding the bus with a smile, ready for the adventure ahead.
