A storm water pipe replacement project continues toward completion on the City of Delaware’s near south side.

The work is taking place between Sandusky Street and Liberty Street, just north of Bernard Avenue. Crews are burying new corrugated plastic pipe, some sections as large as 4-feet in diameter, about 6 to 10 feet underground depending on the terrain.

Work has progressed to near Bernard Ave. and all the new drainage pipe and catch basins should be in the ground by the end of January, weather permitting.

Once the new pipe is installed, crews will begin pavement restoration where the new pipe crossed under streets and roadways. This $700,000 project is being funded with storm water utility fees and will continue through March 2022.

Delaware residents are reminded that City  offices are closed Monday, January 17 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and there will be no refuse collection.

Residential refuse and recycling crews will operate on the “next day” collection schedule, beginning Tuesday, January 18, and continuing through Saturday, January 22, to complete the week’s collections. Dumpster collections will be unchanged.

Questions concerning collections can be directed to [email protected] or 740-203-1810, or by using the Del-AWARE mobile or web app.
