Delaware County’s work to become a more livable community for older adults has reached another milestone.

SourcePoint has announced that AARP has officially approved the county’s second Age-Friendly Action Plan, reaffirming a local commitment to building a community where residents of all ages can remain active, connected, and supported. The announcement comes at the beginning of May, which is recognized nationally as Older Americans Month.

Building On Local Partnerships

The newly approved plan was spearheaded by SourcePoint and the Delaware Public Health District, with support from local leaders, organizations, and residents. It builds on years of collaboration around one central idea: communities that work well for older adults tend to work better for everyone.

The plan outlines strategies focused on several key areas of community life, including transportation, housing, social participation, health services, and overall livability. Its goal is to help older adults continue to participate fully in community life while also strengthening Delaware County’s quality of life more broadly.

“This milestone reflects the strong partnerships and shared vision across our community,” said Fara Waugh, SourcePoint CEO. “When we design a community that works for older adults, we create a better place for everyone.”

Safer, More Connected, More Inclusive

The Age-Friendly initiative recognizes that aging is not just a personal matter, but a community-wide issue shaped by access, design, services, and opportunity. That can mean safer streets, more accessible public spaces, stronger transportation options, better access to health and support services, and more ways for residents to stay socially engaged. For Delaware County, the new plan offers a framework for continuing that work in a coordinated way.

Supporters say the approach is especially important in a growing county, where planning for older residents must be part of broader conversations about development, mobility, public health, and civic life.
