The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) has announced a collaboration with Uber to broaden its services by incorporating real-time transit data, trip organization, and ticket procurement through Masabi integration within the Uber app.

The Uber app now features COTA public transit details, enabling both COTA and Uber rideshare patrons to examine various transportation alternatives in the Columbus region in a single, smooth experience. The integration of COTA and Uber rideshare offers customers a wide range of affordable and dependable public transit choices, which they can access directly through the Uber app.

COTA Chief Innovation & Technology Officer, Sophia Mohr, highlighted that Uber’s alliance with COTA showcases the potential of private and public mobility collaboration to enhance customer experiences and facilitate access to jobs, food, healthcare appointments, and other essential services across the region. COTA appreciates Uber’s support in advancing Central Ohio’s mobility and ensuring transportation access is equitable and inclusive.

This update emphasizes mobility options, making it simpler for users to decide the most efficient and sustainable way to travel from one location to another. Using Masabi’s Ticketing SDK, COTA service tickets purchased via Uber cost $4.50 for a single-day pass, allowing passengers to plan, pay, and navigate their journey within one app.

Jen Shepherd, Global Head of Transit at Uber, explained that the company is committed to making their app a comprehensive solution for transportation needs. They are excited to partner with COTA and Masabi to offer new ticketing options for riders in the Columbus and Central Ohio areas, streamlining the ticket purchasing process and providing increased flexibility.

Masabi’s CEO, Brian Zanghi, believes that integrating ticketing options into the Uber app improves rider accessibility and flexibility, creating a seamless ticketing experience. He looks forward to expanding partnerships with COTA and Uber to enhance the rider experience for travelers in Columbus and beyond.

HOW IT FUNCTIONS

Users input their destination in the Uber app, which then offers Transit as a transportation option. By selecting “Transit,” customers receive all necessary planning information, including real-time data, trip planning, and comprehensive directions.

Purchasing tickets through the Uber app is fast and simple. After selecting their route, riders can buy and redeem tickets using their existing payment profile. Once bought, tickets are saved in the “Transit Tickets” section of the app. Passengers activate tickets when boarding the bus and, if offline, can show their passes to the driver for visual inspection.
