The City of Delaware has started a water main replacement project on South Franklin Street, stretching from Bernard Avenue to London Road. Work began Tuesday, September 2, and will continue through October 17, weather permitting. The project is being managed by the City’s Public Utilities Department and funded through the Water Capital Improvement Fund.

Protecting Water and Improving Service

The project replaces aging infrastructure to safeguard the City’s water supply, improve reliability for residents, and boost fire flow in the neighborhood. Crews will tie the new main into existing lines at Bernard Avenue, W. Harrison Street, and London Road. These connections will require temporary water shutoffs, with affected residents given at least 24 hours’ notice. Once the line is active, crews will restore pavement and repair any impacted yards.

What Residents Can Expect

Construction may bring road closures, traffic delays, parking restrictions, and added noise during regular work hours. The City will post signs and provide traffic control for safety. While crews will give advance notice of planned shutoffs, unplanned service interruptions may occasionally occur.
