You may well have noticed road work happening this summer around Delaware County; we have shared posts and updates about many of those projects here on 1808Delaware.

Today, we’re taking a peek at what’s coming. The following projects are listed as having 2020 construction kickoff dates on the website of Delaware County Engineer Chris Bauserman:

Africa and Cheshire Road Improvements

The Africa and Cheshire Road Improvements will include resurfacing and constructing paved shoulders on Africa Road extending from Jaycox Road to Cheshire Road, and on Cheshire Road from Old State Road to Africa Road.  The project will also construct left turn lanes on Africa at Plumb Road and at Lewis Center Road and resurface the bridge deck on the Cheshire Road structure over Alum Creek Lake. The estimated project cost is $4.2 million.  Delaware County received funding commitments for 80% of the project cost from federal highway funding via ODOT through grants from MORPC and the County Engineer’s Association of Ohio.

US23 and Hyatts/Shanahan Road Improvements

The project will add turn lanes on Hyatts Road and on Shanahan Road approaching US 23, and will widen Hyatts Road to a 3-lane section with a center turn lane for about 1/4 mile west of US 23.

The project will require closures of Shanahan and Hyatts Road to construct the widening of each approach.  Shanahan Road is expected to close in June 2020 for approximately 45 days.  Hyatts Road will close in July 2020 for approximately 75 days.  Construction schedules are subject to change due to coordination with other, nearby projects and also subject to weather delays.

Worthington and Africa Road Intersection

The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow and mobility at the intersection of Worthington and Africa Roads.

The project will include widening of Worthington Road to 5-lanes through the intersection (2 northbound, 2 southbound plus left turn lanes), and a new right turn lane for southbound Africa Road.  Reconstruction of Worthington Road will extend north to Highland Lakes Avenue, tapering from 5 to 3 lanes about 600 feet north of Africa Road, and includes flattening the existing hills to improve sight distance and safety.
