Residents may notice Westerville Division of Police (WPD) officers sporting facial hair or decorative nails in the coming months. These officers are supporting Westerville Caring and Sharing from November to December, followed by the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (WARM) from January to February. The program officially ends March 1.

Through the charitable program, officers will grow facial hair (beards and goatees) or participate with creative and/or decorative nail designs/polish during these months for a $100 donation for each respective campaign.

WPD Chief Charles Chandler relaxed the department’s policy mandating that all officers be clean-shaven with neat, trimmed nails to accommodate those participating. During these months, officers’ facial hair must still be neatly groomed. The policy for fingernail length is not changed; however, creative and decorative designs are encouraged outside of the usual clear and conservative language regarding nail polish.
