The Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District has opened orders for its annual Bare Root Tree Sale, offering residents a chance to purchase affordable seedlings for spring planting.

Quantities are limited, and orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Early ordering is strongly encouraged to secure preferred species. Because online sales are not available, the district will contact customers if any selected items are sold out at the time orders are processed.

Tree Pick-Up Details

Orders will be available for pick-up April 14–17 between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM at the district office on the Byxbe Campus. Visitors should drive past the main building and follow the drive as it curves left around the back. Parking is available near the greenhouses, adjacent to the Sheriff’s Property Room. Pick-up will take place in the garage to the right of the greenhouses, with signage posted for directions. After-hours pick-up can be arranged if needed.

Seedlings are packaged in tote bags, and because they are small, most orders do not require a large vehicle.

What Are Bare Root Trees?

Bare root trees and shrubs are dormant plants that are sold without soil surrounding their roots. Each seedling is treated with a protective gel and sealed in a plastic bag to preserve moisture.

For best results, these trees should be planted immediately upon pickup, either directly in the ground or in a permanent container, while still dormant.

How to Order

Orders must be submitted by mail or in person, along with payment. The district accepts cash or check only.
