The Delaware community is set to pay tribute to the heroes of yesteryears with its annual Veterans Parade. With an enriching tradition of honoring the valor of servicemen and servicewomen, this year’s event has a special theme – honoring those who served during the Vietnam era.

A March of Honor

Come November 5 at 3:00 PM, the streets of Delaware will resonate with the spirit of patriotism. The parade will commence from the Delaware County Fairgrounds, make its way down Pennsylvania Avenue, and then move southward on Sandusky Street. The journey of reverence will conclude near OWU. Spectators will get an opportunity to witness a procession that speaks of sacrifice, valor, and unity, especially celebrating the return of the Vietnam Era Veterans.

Welcoming Participation

Delaware’s commitment to recognizing the sacrifices of its veterans is evident in its call for participation. The event is not just for veterans, but the entire community. Whether you wish to march, volunteer, attend, or sponsor, the doors are open for all. It’s an open invitation to stand shoulder to shoulder, championing the cause of recognition and respect for those who have laid everything on the line for their nation.

A Social Gathering of Veterans

Post the parade, attendees are invited to the Veteran’s Social from 12:00 to 2:30 PM at the Jr. Fair Building. It promises to be an afternoon of camaraderie, with a light lunch, delightful desserts, coffee, and a plethora of memories to share. Beyond food, it’s about fellowship and fun, a time for veterans to reconnect, share tales from the past, and build new memories. The social is open to the public, offering everyone an opportunity to personally thank a veteran for their service.

Registration and More

For those keen to be part of this parade, registration forms are ready for collection at two prime locations: the Delaware Library Main Branch on 84 E Winter Street and the Delaware Veterans Service Office located at 149 North Sandusky Street. But act quickly, as the last date for registration is swiftly approaching, with the deadline set for 5:00 PM on Friday, November 3, 2023. Stay updated with the latest information by following the event on their Facebook page.

The organizing committee urges everyone to share the registration form and parade details. This isn’t just an event; it’s a movement, a call to recognize and cherish the sacrifices made by countless individuals.
