Powell City Council opened its September 2 meeting by shining a light on food insecurity. A proclamation was presented to People in Need, Inc. of Delaware County, officially recognizing September as Hunger Action Month. Council members emphasized the importance of community partnerships in addressing hunger and praised the nonprofit’s long-standing role in helping local families.
Moving the Village Green Plan Forward
One of the evening’s key decisions was the approval of a professional services agreement with Pizzuti Solutions to guide Phase II of the Village Green Master Plan. The project is expected to build on earlier work to enhance the city’s central gathering place, shaping it into a more vibrant and accessible destination for residents and visitors alike.
Resolutions on Finance and Technology
Council voted to accept the rates and amounts set by the Delaware County Budget Commission, certifying the necessary tax levies for the year ahead. In addition, members authorized an amendment with Doug McCollough of DMC Group LLC, allowing the consultant to continue providing Powell with strategic IT leadership and long-term technology planning.
Parking, Appointments, and CRA Moratorium
The evening wrapped up with several additional actions. A parking agreement was approved with Laurie Sue Groff Knight for the property at 50 W. Olentangy Street, ensuring continued downtown access. Council also appointed new members to various boards and commissions, setting terms for each role. On the legislative front, the first reading was held on an ordinance to amend the boundaries of the Downtown Community Reinvestment Area and update its administration. At the same time, council adopted a temporary moratorium, halting new residential tax abatement applications under the CRA program until September 17.
