When the City of Powell finalized the purchase of the 32-acre Bennett Farm in 2024, it wasn’t just acquiring land. It was making a statement about the kind of community Powell wants to be.
City Council voted unanimously on May 21, 2024, to purchase the property for $6.25 million. The decision reflected more than fiscal agreement—it underscored a shared belief in protecting open space, honoring local history, and planning for the generations ahead.
A Legacy Property
City Manager Andrew White called Bennett Farm “a legacy property,” and many longtime residents would agree. The Bennett family worked the farm for decades, raising sheep and maintaining a piece of Powell’s rural character even as the city grew and modernized.
Located just east of Arbor Ridge Park and within walking distance of Downtown, the farm is uniquely positioned. It will not only expand Powell’s park system but also create a natural corridor connecting neighborhoods, business districts, and recreational amenities.
What’s Next for the Land
Plans for the property are still taking shape, but city leaders have already shared their vision. Multi-use paths, wide green spaces for community gatherings, and thoughtful preservation of the farm’s agricultural heritage are all part of the discussion. The goal, officials say, is balance—accessibility, sustainability, and respect for history.
Community Input Ahead
Bennett Farm’s future will be shaped with help from residents. City officials plan to hold listening sessions and seek feedback as they refine the vision for the space.
For now, the farm remains quiet, its fields a reminder of Powell’s agricultural past. Soon, though, it could become a place where history and modern life meet—a park that both remembers and reimagines what a community green space can be.
