Nearly 300 school board members, administrators, staff, students and guests from across central Ohio gathered in Columbus on September 25 for the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Central Region Fall Conference.

During the event, a Delaware County public servant was recognized for her service to education.

The region hosts two conferences a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The conference features updates from OSBA officers and staff and a number of awards and recognitions. The region recognized outstanding teachers, exemplary employees, school board members with 30 or more years of service and outstanding board members.

These recognitions included presentation of the Friends of Public Education and Champion of Public Education awards. The first of those was awarded to Sue Mahler for her service to Olentangy Schools.

In particular, Mahler was nominated for the honor in recognition of her many years of service to the district, including as a member of the Olentangy Education Foundation Board.

“Sue’s strong belief in the value of public education is evident as she brings professionalism, passion and expertise to our entire community – students, staff, parents, administration – all of whom benefit from her gifts,” the Olentangy School Board wrote in its nomination.

Fourteen counties comprise the OSBA Central Region: Crawford, Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Knox, Licking, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway, Richland, Ross and Union. The other OSBA regions are Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest.
