The City of Westerville has demonstrated a commitment to composting as a move to reduce the amount of food scraps that are transported each year to a landfill.

To that end, the City set a goal of composting 10 tons of material in the first 12 months of its program, using monies obtained through the Community Waste Reduction Grant Program through the Solid Waste Authority of Ohio. Westerville was one of 15 grant recipients in 2020 sharing some $201,000.

The Westerville Chamber of Commerce has now shared news via social media that a pilot citywide composting effort will be coming to Westerville soon. From March 29 to May 3, residents can participate in the pilot effort free of charge.

This is one of a series of similar pilot programs being offered by The Compost Exchange. The company runs ongoing composting services for a fee in various areas of Columbus, including Dublin and Hillard.
