A day after the announcement by Governor DeWine about the termination of most pandemic health orders, it was learned that hard work by Delaware Countians to remain vigilant about the COVID-19 virus, including state-leading vaccination rates, has had a positive result.

On Thursday, the Ohio Department of Health announced that Delaware County had fallen to Level 2, or “Orange Level” on the Ohio Public Health Advisory System for the first time since October of last year.

Two of that system’s “indicators” were met this week — that of new cases per capita and the percentage of cases which are in non-congregate settings.

Over the two weeks proceeding Thursday, there were a total of 169 new cases in the county, representing 80.79 cases per 100,000 population. A week earlier, those numbers stood at 278 and 132.90.

COVID-19 is still a factor in student health in Delaware County schools. New cases reported this week were as follows:

  • Buckeye Valley — 1 student, 1 staff
  • DACC — 1 student
  • Delaware City — 3 students
  • Olentangy — 17 students, 2 staff

Meanwhile, a positive test for one staff member at Delaware’s Sarah Moore Home was the only COVID-19 case in the county’s nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
