The Ohio State University is seeking Board of Trustees approval for $7.4 million in design and pre-construction services with an architectural firm for its new Wexner Medical Center Outpatient Care Powell, scheduled to open in the Summer/Fall of 2025 in the city of Powell. A request for proposals will be released for preconstruction services with a Construction Manager.
If approved, the Powell location will join New Albany and Dublin as the third suburban facility to expand the reach of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The size and cost of Outpatient Care Powell has not yet been determined, but the interior and exterior designs will be consistent with the New Albany and Dublin buildings.
The $133.9M .9 million, 251,000-square-foot Outpatient Care New Albany opened in the summer of 2021, and the $161.2 million, 272,000-square-foot Outpatient Care Dublin is slated to open this summer.
“This is all part of our ambulatory expansion strategy to provide convenient access to comprehensive healthcare services – including primary and specialty care along with diagnostic and treatment services – where people work and live,” said Dan Like, chief administrative officer of ambulatory services at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. “Working together with the city of Powell, Olentangy schools and residents, we will tailor our healthcare services to meet the unique needs of the community.”
Outpatient Care Powell will be built on almost 30 acres of land at the northeast corner of Home Road and Sawmill Parkway, across from Olentangy Liberty High School. Ohio State purchased the property in 2019.
“The City of Powell is excited for the commencement of this substantial project. The Wexner Medical Center Outpatient Care Powell will be the largest economic development project in Powell’s history,” said City Manager Andrew D. White. “Upon completion, it will serve the community’s health and wellness needs now and in the future as the region continues to grow. The facility’s economic impact will help perpetuate access to superior public service and quality of life today – and attract future investments in the City. This is a great win for Powell.”
