Westerville is taking significant strides in developing and revitalizing its parks, aiming to blend nature with recreation while honoring historical structures. The latest updates highlight the City’s plans for Edge Park, Metzger Park, and the reconstruction of a historic Shinto Shrine. These projects not only promise to enhance the community’s outdoor experiences but also reflect Westerville’s commitment to sustainability and cultural preservation.

Edge Park: A Natural Escape in the Heart of Westerville

Edge Park, a serene 10.5-acre wooded ravine nestled between Vesper Way and Cleveland Avenue, is the focus of Westerville’s ambitious plans to integrate recreational activities with the natural environment. The City’s vision includes the creation of wetlands, a children’s adventure area, nature trails, and a unique helix boardwalk that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the area’s natural beauty.

For residents who missed the public engagement meetings, there is still an opportunity to view the proposed plans and provide feedback. Your input is valuable in shaping the future of Edge Park. To participate, visit the City’s survey at www.westerville.org/edgepark.

Metzger Park: Community Input Shapes the Future

Metzger Park, located at 137 Granby Place Way, is another green space undergoing a thoughtful redesign. The City has presented a concept plan to the community and is actively seeking feedback to ensure the park meets residents’ needs and desires.

Westerville residents are encouraged to attend the public engagement meeting on Thursday, August 15, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Community Center. This meeting is an excellent opportunity to contribute ideas and view the proposed concepts. For more details on the plans for Metzger Park, visit www.westerville.org/metzger.

Shinto Shrine: Reviving a Piece of History

In an effort to preserve Westerville’s rich cultural heritage, the City has embarked on a project to reconstruct the Shinto Shrine, a historical structure with deep roots in the community. Since 2018, Westerville has partnered with Schooley Caldwell Associates to restore this important site. Three potential locations have been identified for the Shrine’s reconstruction: the corner of Sunbury and County Line Road, Otterbein Lake, and Astronaut Grove Park.

The community is invited to explore renderings of the proposed sites and learn more about the history of the Shinto Shrine. This project not only aims to restore a significant cultural landmark but also serves as a reminder of the diverse history that shapes Westerville. For more information and to view the renderings, visit www.westerville.org/shintoshrine.
