The Delaware Area Career Center (DACC) has unveiled a series of upcoming Open House events aimed at high school students, families, and community members. Set for December 5, December 7, December 11, and January 9, these events offer a comprehensive look at career and educational opportunities available at DACC. Each event is tailored to different interests and stages of the high school experience, making it easier for attendees to find a session that matches their needs.
These events are especially valuable for current sophomores and juniors who are considering pursuing career-specific training while completing their high school education. Attendees can explore various programs, meet instructors, and gain a better understanding of potential career pathways.
General Open House Starts the Series
When: Thursday, December 5, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM
Where: DACC Main Campus and Camp Lazarus (for Wildlife and Resource Management visitors)
The first event in the series is a general DACC Open House, open to all ages and especially relevant for sophomores interested in programs for the 2025-2026 school year. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the DACC Main Campus, as well as Camp Lazarus, which hosts the Wildlife and Resource Management program.
Attendees can explore classrooms, interact with instructors, and learn about the hands-on training opportunities offered at DACC. Programs range from healthcare and engineering to digital design and more. The Open House aims to provide insight into how DACC integrates academic education with real-world experiences, helping students make informed decisions about their educational and career paths.
Equine Science Open House at the Fairgrounds
When: Saturday, December 7, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Where: Delaware County Fairgrounds
The second event focuses specifically on the Equine Science program, which offers students a unique opportunity to learn about equine care, management, and training. Held at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, this open house allows participants to tour the barn, see the classroom setup, and meet with the instructor.
The Equine Science program is well-suited for students interested in pursuing careers related to animal sciences, veterinary fields, or farm management. The open house provides a direct look at the program’s facilities and daily operations, allowing students to better understand what the curriculum involves.
Senior-Only Programs Open House for Upperclassmen
When: Wednesday, December 11, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM
Where: DACC Main Campus
The Senior-Only Programs Open House is specifically designed for current juniors exploring programs available exclusively to seniors. This event provides a focused overview of the courses offered to seniors, which often include industry certifications, college credits, and career-oriented skills development.
DACC staff and instructors will be present to offer detailed information about these programs, help with the application process, and provide insights into how these courses can facilitate career readiness or college preparation. It’s a targeted event that helps upperclassmen prepare for their final year of high school and beyond.
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium School Open House
When: Thursday, January 9, from 6:00 PM to 7:45 PM
Where: Columbus Zoo
The final event in this series is the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium School Open House, a unique program that blends classroom learning with hands-on experience at the zoo. This open house provides participants with a chance to tour the classroom, meet the instructor, and explore how the curriculum is tailored to wildlife biology, conservation, and related fields.
Students enrolled in this program will have the chance to engage directly with zoo staff and participate in educational activities that bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. It’s an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in zoology, veterinary sciences, or environmental education.
