The City of Westerville has welcomed a seasoned leader to its executive team. D. Grant Crawford has officially joined the city as its new Director of Public Service, bringing with him more than 17 years of experience and a reputation for innovative, community-first leadership.

Crawford’s career began in Gahanna, where he rose through the ranks from Utility Operator to Director of Public Service. Most recently, he held the same title in the City of Powell, overseeing both Engineering and Parks and Recreation departments—two vital pillars of municipal infrastructure and community life.

Driven by Integrity, Focused on Innovation

Crawford has earned the respect of colleagues and constituents alike for his ability to lead transformative projects that not only improve city services but also promote teamwork and empower staff. He is known for fostering a collaborative work environment where ideas thrive, and results follow.

With a Master of Public Administration and Class II licenses in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection from the Environmental Protection Agency, Crawford combines academic rigor with technical know-how—a rare blend that makes him especially effective in public service leadership.

A Personal Connection to Westerville

For Crawford, the move to Westerville is more than a professional advancement—it’s a homecoming.

“I’m honored to join Team Westerville,” he said. “This city holds special meaning for my wife and me, and I’m excited to give back to this great community.”

His familiarity with Westerville’s character, culture, and commitment to excellence positions him well to lead in a way that aligns with the city’s values and vision for the future.

Beyond the Office

When he’s not overseeing major projects or mentoring city staff, Crawford enjoys getting his hands dirty as a backyard mechanic. He and his wife are regulars at the Westerville Saturday Farmers Market, where they source fresh ingredients for grilling and weekend meals. Their shared love of local restaurants keeps them connected to the vibrant food scene that Westerville residents cherish.
