Back by popular demand, the Delaware County Historical Society is proud to present the third installment of its powerful series, “Understanding Black History Through Black Music (Part 3)” on Monday, April 8 at 7:00 PM at The Barn at Stratford, 2690 Stratford Road in Delaware.

This engaging and free public program will once again be led by Dr. William (Ted) McDaniel, a distinguished professor and expert in African American music and jazz studies. Building upon the foundation laid by the first two sessions, Part 3 will dive deep into the musical innovations of the 20th century—highlighting the evolution and impact of blues, jazz, R&B, and protest songs.

Dr. McDaniel’s dynamic presentations use recorded music to guide audiences through the shifting landscapes of Black culture and history.

✨ Special Performance by Zion AME Church Choir

The evening will also feature a special live performance by the Zion AME Church Choir, adding a vibrant and spiritual layer to the evening’s exploration of Black musical traditions.

🎵 A Story Told Through Sound

From field songs and spirituals rooted in the era of slavery to the rhythm-infused poetry of protest songs, Black music has long chronicled the struggles, triumphs, and aspirations of the Black community. This program, using curated musical selections, will highlight how 20th-century Black music not only shaped culture but also inspired social change.
