This Saturday, April 19, from 1 to 4 PM, Preservation Parks of Delaware County invites families and nature lovers to Deer Haven Park for a festive, interactive Earth Day celebration. Nestled among 97 acres of forest, meadow, and wetland, the park is the perfect backdrop for an afternoon filled with exploration, education, and fun — all in honor of our shared home, the planet.

Whether you’re planting seedling trees to restore forest habitat, exploring microscopic life, or dipping into the wetlands with a net, the event offers something for every age and interest. Best of all, attendees can take a sapling home to plant, extending the spirit of Earth Day well beyond the park.

Nature Comes Alive with Music, Crafts, and Cupcakes

This year’s celebration includes a special Earth Day concert with Joanie Calem, known for her engaging sing-alongs that delight audiences of all ages. Visitors can also try Earth-themed crafts, games, and — because no celebration is complete without a treat — cupcakes.

Kids will love the hands-on nature activities, while adults can join a guided forest hike led by a nature photographer, offering a new lens on the beauty of the spring woods.

Discover Deer Haven Park: A Delaware County Gem

If you’ve never visited before, Deer Haven Park is worth discovering. Located at 4183 Liberty Road in Delaware, the park features an accessible trail system, wildlife viewing blind, and the Nature Center at Deer Haven, which offers interactive displays and seasonal programming. It’s a place where you can pause, connect with nature, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Ohio outdoors.

Earth Day: A Global Mission with Local Meaning

First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day has grown into a worldwide movement, with over a billion participants each year. While the challenges facing our environment are global, the solutions often start locally — with communities planting trees, protecting habitats, and fostering a deeper connection with nature.

Preservation Parks’ Earth Day celebration is more than just a fun afternoon — it’s a reminder that protecting the environment begins in our own backyards.

So bring the whole family, get your hands dirty, and help grow a greener future.
