Enrollment is now open for the 2025 City of Delaware Citizens Academy, a free, in-person program offering residents and local workers an exclusive opportunity to learn about how the City of Delaware operates. This highly interactive program runs from mid-February through May, with classes held twice a month on Thursday evenings, designed to fit into busy schedules while offering an engaging learning experience.

Participants will gain valuable insights as City staff and elected officials provide an in-depth look at the structure, functions, and day-to-day operations of local government. The experience includes guided facility tours, hands-on demonstrations, detailed explanations of department responsibilities, and direct interactions with department directors. From public safety to infrastructure management, attendees will leave with a comprehensive understanding of how the City works to serve its community.

The Academy is open to Delaware residents or individuals who work in Delaware and have a curiosity about local governance. To ensure a meaningful experience, attendance at all sessions is required unless extenuating circumstances arise. With only 20 spots available, early application is strongly encouraged as seats tend to fill quickly due to high interest.

The program provides an excellent opportunity for participants to build relationships with City leaders, network with fellow residents, and contribute ideas to help shape Delaware’s future. Whether you are a long-time resident or new to the area, this program offers a unique perspective on what it takes to keep the City running smoothly and efficiently.

The application deadline is February 3, 2025, and the first session begins February 13, 2025. The program schedule is carefully planned to ensure each session is informative, engaging, and interactive, offering participants the best possible experience.
