Winbak Farm has announced that Heston Blue Chip, one of the most accomplished standardbred stallions of his generation, will begin standing at Sugar Valley Farm in Delaware starting in 2026. It’s a meaningful shift for breeders and harness racing followers in Ohio and the Midwest, bringing a top-tier pacing sire directly into the state’s growing standardbred program.
A Look at Heston Blue Chip
Foaled in 2009, Heston Blue Chip built a career defined by speed and consistency. He recorded a 1:48.0 mark at age three and retired with earnings of $1,781,881. His performance at three earned him the Dan Patch Award for 3-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year in 2012, the same season he captured major wins in the Breeders Crown and the Empire Breeders Classic.
Proven Success as a Sire
Heston Blue Chip’s impact continued long after his racing days. He has sired 434 registered foals, with 319 making it to the track. Of those, 228 have paced in 2:00 or faster, and 149 have clocked 1:55 or better. His offspring have combined for more than $17.1 million in earnings as of 2025. His 2025 stud fee was listed at $6,000, reflecting his reputation as a reliable source of speed and competitiveness.
What This Means for Ohio Breeders
Sugar Valley Farm, already a significant player in the state’s standardbred breeding landscape, will now offer Ohio breeders direct access to an elite pacing stallion. That’s more than a convenience; it’s an opportunity. With Heston Blue Chip in-state, breeders can more easily participate in Ohio’s robust Sire Stakes program and take advantage of other Ohio-based incentives. His arrival may nudge more owners to invest in the state’s racing circuit and potentially elevate the quality of pacing horses bred here.
Strengthening a Growing Industry
Ohio’s harness racing and breeding programs have been gaining momentum, and the addition of a stallion with Heston Blue Chip’s résumé underscores that upward trend. After previously standing at Diamond Creek Farm of Pennsylvania on behalf of Winbak Farm, his move represents a significant commitment to Ohio’s expanding presence in the standardbred world.
For breeders, trainers, and racing fans across the region, 2026 will bring a notable new chapter as Heston Blue Chip settles into his Delaware County home.
