For those who believe—or want to believe—Delaware’s past still lingers after dark, the Delaware County Historical Society has just the event for you.
Back for two spine-tingling nights, the Ghost Hunts at the Historic Jail and Sheriff’s Residence offer brave souls a chance to explore one of the county’s most storied (and possibly haunted) buildings. In partnership with Tri-C Ghost Hunters, these investigations take you beyond the history books and into the shadows of the old 1878 jail.
Inside the Haunted Hallways
Participants will embark on a two-hour, lights-out paranormal tour of the jail and adjacent sheriff’s home. With only a flashlight in hand, guests explore cellblocks, corridors, and rooms said to host lingering spirits from the building’s long and at times tragic past.
The evening begins with an orientation, followed by a guided ghost hunt and a chance to debrief afterward. These aren’t staged haunts—this is a serious dive into the unexplained.

A Peek Into History
As part of the experience, a special exhibit titled “Life of the Sheriff and Deputies” gives context to the people who once lived and worked inside these walls—some of whom might still be hanging around.
Bring a flashlight, a sense of curiosity, and perhaps a bit of courage. This is one Delaware tradition that dares you to look history straight in the eye… and maybe see who blinks first.
