In a move designed to improve efficiency and streamline student transportation, Big Walnut Local School District will implement a minor adjustment to its elementary school boundaries beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year. The change, which affects a specific portion of the district south of State Route 36/37, reflects a practical response to the logistical challenge of serving split apartment complexes across two elementary schools.

The New Line: Clarity for Families and Buses

The new boundary line draws a clear divide using State Route 36/37 as the landmark. Students living north of the highway will continue attending Prairie Run Elementary School, while those living south—highlighted in pink on the district map—will now attend Big Walnut Elementary School. This update simplifies the district’s bus routes and enhances predictability for both families and the transportation team.

Importantly, the adjustment is not expected to impact any students who were already enrolled in an elementary school last year. The area of change, marked within a yellow box on the district’s map, will shift from Prairie Run’s attendance zone (pink) to Big Walnut Elementary (blue).

Looking Ahead

With no changes to the boundaries for General Rosecrans Elementary (still designated in orange), the district believes this small but strategic change will lead to better service and less confusion for new families moving into the area.

Families with questions or concerns are encouraged to reach out to the district for further clarification.
