Lumos, a leading provider of 100% Fiber Optic Internet and Total Home Wi-Fi, has announced its expansion into central Ohio. This marks the company’s fourth large-scale investment in the state, with plans to lay over 1,000 miles of fiber. The expansion aims to provide ultra-high-speed, reliable internet to both residents and businesses throughout the Columbus Metro area, including Westerville.

Recognizing the growing demand for improved broadband access, Lumos is committed to offering more choices, competitive pricing, and industry-leading connectivity solutions. The investment is entirely privately funded, signaling Lumos’ confidence in the region’s economic growth and its potential as a thriving technology hub.

A New Era of High-Speed Connectivity

Lumos will be the first fiber provider for many neighborhoods, bringing its state-of-the-art infrastructure to cities and communities such as Columbus, Westerville, Blendon Township, Mifflin Township, Clinton Township, Minerva Park, and more. The expansion will bring gigabit-speed internet to underserved areas, enabling households and businesses to experience faster downloads, seamless streaming, and reliable connections for remote work and education.

“Our team has hit the ground running in Ohio, and residents have made one thing clear—they want better internet options,” said Brian Stading, CEO of Lumos. “We’re excited to bring industry-leading fiber technology to Franklin County, giving people better access to work, school, telemedicine, and all the online activities that keep them connected and moving forward.”

Bridging the Digital Divide

Lumos’ investment aligns with ongoing efforts to close the digital divide and enhance Columbus’ role as a tech hub. U.S. Senator Jon Husted praised the expansion, emphasizing its impact on both urban and rural communities. “Bringing fiber to an additional 110,000 homes and businesses demonstrates confidence in our great state, a commitment to central Ohio, and I believe it will be transformative for the residents of Linden,” he stated.

Columbus City Council member Nick Bankston echoed this sentiment, stating, “An investment in our fiber is an investment in our people and will allow our city to capitalize on our ever-growing role as a tech hub in the Midwest.” The expansion will support local businesses, equip students with better online learning opportunities, and improve access to essential digital services.

What’s Next for Westerville?

Engineering work for the expansion is already underway, with construction set to begin in the first half of 2025. Residents will receive notifications by mail as construction progresses, and they can stay updated by following Lumos on social media.
